Moretti Luce

Moretti Luce, an Italian brand that really embraces a raw, often maritime and cottage style. Their use of solid brass is a major plus – it’s one of the few materials that actually looks better with age rather than simply falling apart.

To make it easier to get an overview of the information, here is a summary of what you can expect from their collection:

Materials and aesthetics

Moretti Luce specialises in a “maritime and cottage style”, using high-quality metals designed to withstand the elements (particularly relevant if you live near the coast).

  • Primary material: Solid brass.

  • Finish options:

    • Untreated brass: Perfect if you like a living surface that develops a natural patina, or if you enjoy the ritual of polishing, a polished brass.

    • Antique finishes: Includes antique brass, antique brown and copper-oxidised (a mottled, aged look).

  • Modern options: Selected models are available in powder-coated colours for a cleaner, modern look.

  • Glass: Most models allow you to choose between clear (for maximum light and an ‘Edison’ bulb vibe) or frosted (to reduce glare and soften the light).

Applications

Due to their robust construction, these lamps are versatile enough for both indoor and outdoor areas with high exposure:

  • Outdoors: Facades, paths and terraces by the coast - IP44 to IP65.
  • Indoors: Industrial-style kitchens or living rooms - IP20.
  • Speciality: Authentic ship and deck lamps.

Availability and delivery

As these products are handmade, there is a certain ‘waiting time for quality’ associated with them.

Pro tip: If you choose unvarnished brass for outdoor use, please be aware that salt air will significantly accelerate the tarnishing process. If you want it to remain shiny, you should apply a metal protectant or be prepared to polish it regularly!
